We have seen lately a rising amount of email attacks trying to exploit vulnerabilities in PDF files. We would like to strongly recommend our customers, to check their Policy configuration of Mimesweeper. In most particularly they must check their Anti-Virus scenarios and make sure that specific data-types are scanned for viruses, especially: PDF, .DOC, .XLS, .PPT.

The tool is called Sockstress tool, and it can allow a potential hacker to perform a DoS (Denial of Service) attack on servers. The idea behind the tool, is to open connections and leave them open, until the resources of the server run out, and thus bringing the server down.
