Εmail attacks trying to exploit vulnerabilities in PDF files
Urgency:
Urgent (Small/Medium/Large/Urgent)
Summary
Dear Customer,
We have seen lately a rising amount of email attacks trying to exploit vulnerabilities in PDF files. We would like to strongly recommend our customers, to check their Policy configuration of Mimesweeper. In most particularly they must check their Anti-Virus scenarios and make sure that specific data-types are scanned for viruses, especially: PDF, .DOC, .XLS, .PPT.
Suggested solutions
In order to implement those checks and changes:
Open the policy editor, and find your AntiVirus scenarios (Content Scanner type). At the properties of Content Scanner scenario goto the “Data Types” Tab. Make sure the 'Excluded Data Types' options is selected. Then make sure that pdf, doc, xls, ppt data types are unchecked. If not, then uncheck them. Then apply the policy normally.
