Summary

Dear customer,
Inter Engineering and Netasq would like to inform that a new hacking tool has been published on the Internet. The tool is called Sockstress tool, and it can allow a potential hacker to perform a DoS (Denial of Service) attack on servers. The idea behind the tool, is to open connections and leave them open, until the resources of the server run out, and thus bringing the server down.

Suggested solutions
Netasq firewalls, with their advanced ASQ technology in their IPS (Intrusion Prevention System) already protects from attacks using this tool. The protection is enabled by default in the Netasq firewall's default configuration. The protection technology for the specific hacking tool is available in version 7.0.7 or later, and 8.0.1 or later. Administrators should make sure that their firewalls version are those needed for the protection.
